the Eighth Army [the Eighth Army]
a branch of the British army, formed to fight in North Africa during ↑World War II. After 1942 it was led by Field Marshal ↑Montgomery, and took part in the battles at El Alamein and Tobruk in north Africa. It later fought in Italy.
